Common Boiler Problems

These are some common issues you may encounter with your boiler or radiators. Some can be resolved as a DIY project with a little research, however, for more serious problems you may want to call a 718 Sewer and Drain specialist.

Pilot Flame is Out
Either the gas has been turned off, a faulty thermocouple, or clogging from debris.

No heat
Worn-out parts, thermostat problems or inadequate water levels could be causing the problem.

Inaccurate Thermostat Reading
Check that it’s turned to “on” and the proper settings. Otherwise, your thermostat may need to be replaced.

Drips and Leaks
May be caused by faulty components, rusty parts, or worn seals.

Knocking, Squealing or Bubbling Sounds
low water pressure, malfunctioning parts, air, and non-condensable gases from the steam system may be the problem. Restricted water flow makes the water overheat and evaporate.

Low Pressure
Possibly in need of a new pressure valve or leaking, or recently bled radiator.

A Frozen, outdoor Condensate Pipe
Pouring hot water over it may thaw it.

Radiator Not Hot Enough
Trapped air, or debris. May need bleeding.

Boiler Stalling
Could be thermostat problems or lack of water flow.
